Chief of Staff to Director of Engineering in a 100 person organization.Implemented Chargeback Models Across AWS Accounts: Helped implement chargeback models across AWS accounts company-wide, optimizing resource allocation and driving accountability for cloud usage costs.Work directly across 8 scrum teams to identify risk, optimize workflows and promote cost optimization initiatives.Initiated Post Incident Management Organization and RCA Identification: Initiated and drove the establishment of a post-incident management organization and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) identification process across the 1200-person AI+Data organization. This initiative enhanced incident response capabilities and contributed to continuous improvement in system reliability and performance.Led Clean Data Initiative: Managed the Clean Data Initiative aimed at optimizing the data lake, which exceeded 30PB in size. Through strategic analysis and collaboration with data scientists, we identified and removed over 30% of unused tables, resulting in significant storage cost savings and improved efficiency for data analysis.

Coding is now for fun and (very) occasionally money! I've been coding and building web apps with Ruby on Rails since 2015 when I graduated from the Enspiral Dev Academy. I apply a lot of the skills I've learnt over the years in my program management role at Intuit where I spend a lot of time talking to engineers.

Seattle

After relocating to Seattle, I joined the volunteer dog walking program at the Seattle Animal Shelter while continuing the immigration process. I volunteered twice a week until Covid shut down the program.

San Francisco Bay Area

I volunteered around 10 hours per week at the San Francisco SPCA while in the immigration process. I spent my the majority of my time working with dogs with specific behavioural needs, helping people find suitable dogs to adopt into their homes and assisting with training classes with the public.I have also spent time working with dog trainers and volunteering in public classes helping people foster stronger, happier and healthier relationships with their dogs.

New Zealand

Slapshot Productions run all the media for the New Zealand Ice Hockey League. For Slapshot a lot of this work has been voluntary, I do it because I love sport, sports broadcasting and ice hockey. I grew a solid and varied skill set which has seen me become one of the go to members of the team. I helped with technical setup and pre-shoot testing for games and tournaments, called both play by play and colour commentary for ice hockey games, voiced over a hockey documentary they made, edited video, run social media and produced and directed Livestream events all around New Zealand.I also ran a week long shoot for 20 games in 7 days in Dunedin where we covered the IIHF Division III U20 World Championships. Tournaments such as these are pressure situations, everything must go right as team managers, tournament officials and medical officials rely on the footage we produce in a quick and timely manner. My favourite part of that tournament was sharing the commentary booth with a players father to call a game in English and Mandarin for over 30k viewers in China. As a big sports fan it's been an amazing experience both learning and producing live sports for fans the world over.

After graduating I continued to be involved with the Enspiral Dev Academy and the wider Enspiral network. I was heavily involved with the Manaaki pod. Manaaki in Maori means “to support, take care of, show generosity and care for others”. This embodied the purpose of the pod within Enspiral. Our primary role was to support students, both past and present. Past students are supported through the setup and running of “Code Gym”. A place for former graduates to come and continue to code, learn, collaborate and continue to grow in a familiar environment. Additionally I worked as a Teaching Assistant, walking the floor, sitting in on lectures and working closely with the Teaching team in order to provide the best possible learning environment and experience for current students. I also did small contracts with the contracts team which helped me continue to grow my programming skillset.
