Red Maxwell is a serial entrepreneur and technology executive with over 3 decades experience. He is an active advocate for the diabetes community.Red is principal at VAL Ventures and serves as independent Board Director for mPATH Health. Previously, he served as Chief Marketing Officer in charge of marketing, product design, and human factors for Bigfoot Biomedical, a medical device company focused on diabetes management. Bigfoot was acquired by Abbott Laboratories (NYSE: ABT) in 2023.Red began his branding career at Polo Ralph Lauren, where he started the company's in-house advertising design department. He shifted to the agency side, developing major brand introductions internationally for Revlon, Planters/ Lifesavers, Danone Foods, Foster’s Brewing Company, Wrangler and LEE jeans. As President and Founder of Onramp Branding, he pioneered the field of Employer Branding and consulted with Clear Channel, McGraw-Hill Education and Tiffany & Co.Red has served as the Chief Marketing Officer for the SilkRoad Equity family of companies, which include InterAct Public Safety Systems, SilkRoad technology, SolidSpace, TrueLook and MissionMode.After serving on the Board of Directors of AvidXchange (NASDAQ: AVDX), he moved to an executive management role- first as CMO then as SVP of Growth Innovation & Strategy - of the Charlotte FinTech company helping it cross into billion dollar "unicorn" status and position the company for its IPO. Red Maxwell collaborates closely with Seth Godin and has helped him launch and promote his best selling books and online ventures including Squidoo.com which was sold to Hubpages in 2014. Working with Yoyodyne (acquired by Yahoo!), Red helped to launch some of the first internet direct marketing programs in history. He has launched web sites and promotions for Hanes, Duke Energy, Sara Lee, and Accenture.Red has served on numerous boards for major non-profits such as the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, the Mental Health Association and JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). He is a founder of TypeOneNation.org, one of the first T1 Diabetes online communities and currently holds the role of Director Emeritus for JDRF.Red was a contributing author to The Wall Street Journal Business Bestseller, The Big Moo.
