Responsible for overseeing the operation of the emergency department as part of the operational command rota. Acting as the point-of-escalation for all emergency department matters and working in collaboration with the nurse and consultant in charge. Co-ordinating with both in-hospital teams and external partners to manage and communicate pressures on the service and formulate plans to manage these. Implementing wide-spread quality improvement projects and acting as specialist area leads across the Urgent and Emergency Care administrative teams. Line managing a large team of administrators and being fiscally responsible as a hiring manager, roster and bank shift authoriser and authorised signatory.

Overall responsible for the management of patient flow throughout the hospital including those patients being discharged on day and the following day. This requires co-ordination with multiple teams including social work, safeguarding, site office and matrons, ward managers and nursing teams, pharmacy, medical teams and patient transport to ensure patients move through this process smoothly are well informed and that bottlenecks are quickly identified and resolved.

Ensuring the safe operation of the trusts bed base considering patient needs, staffing and internal incidents. Ensuring patient flow co-ordinators updates are provided in a timely manner to the site management team. Attending site meetings, presenting updates on bed base, bed balance, predicted bed balance and bed closures (e.g. due to IPC or estates issues) as well as highlighting key issues and actions taken whilst continuing to escalate, as appropriate, between site meetings. Acting as part of the command structure, including during major incidents, internal critical incidents and business continuity incidents. Attending internal incidents and alerts as appropriate (e.g. fire and security bleeps). Escalating, seeking approval and implementing plans from ICS, ICB and inter-agency partners.

Performing basic clinical care such as monitoring vital signs and escalating where appropriate, performing ECGs, venepuncture, cannulation, patient handling, BLS, accurately recording patient care on the electronic patient record (EPR) and FirstNet systems as appropriate. Chaperoning and assisting with procedures. Working independently and as part of a team. Comforting and engaging with patients. Serving and feeding patients according to their needs and ensuring restrictions (e.g. fluid restriction, nil by mouth) are followed. Restocking the department with appropriate supplies.

Providing transport and transfer to people in a caring and supportive manner. Being prepared to assist in emergencies such as performing BLS until A&E crews arrive or attending major incidents as support. Acting on concerns in the appropriate manner by making use of SPOC, the control teams, your crew mate and if necessary, the hospital. Using appropriate hygiene and personal protective procedures to reduce risk to self and patient.

Maintaining the smooth running of shifts at a busy coffee shop. This includes ensuring our speciality coffee, is properly dialled in to taste, time, viscosity, dose and yield. As well as keeping food displays constantly topped up and looking bountiful. Included within my responsibilities are resolving customer complaints and ensuring the store is compliant with health and safety requirements.
