After completing sixth form it was time for me to find a full time job which came at motor insurance firm, MCE Insurance. Here I applied for the customer service role. At first it was a strange change going from quite an informal environment in a pub to a very formal office based scenery. However, I adjusted to this role quickly and adapted my customer skills from face to face to over phone and emails. I easily slipped back into the ways of working as a team despite working independently in my previous roles. I made sure colleagues in the office knew who I was and made my self instantly approachable which I felt was good for the team spirit. Whilst dealing with customers over the phone I learnt how to express empathy and sometimes sympathy to them to create that connection between the company and the customer. This was also transferred over to my work over emails as usually it is hard to express feeling using just words in an email, however I found a way to express empathy never the less. During my time in the customer services team I also learnt yet another skill that has stayed with me and that was dealing with difficult and tricky situations. Over the 3 and a half years I have worked there, I came across extremely angry people but was able to still create a connection to then work together with the client and meet their needs. Also whilst logging accidents there have been times where sympathy has to be shown again to create that connection which I am able to do well whilst remaining professional. Around 8 months ago I was transferred over to a debt recovery team within the same company which meant working with new colleagues, under new management, with new processes on new systems but again, I was able to adapt my skills accordingly and work as a vital part of that team.
