After a short stint in a QA role, I was promoted and returned to my trade. My role involves managing and training my team, developing new processes and procedures to ensure efficient and effective work.As a Deputy Manager and Supervisor in Survival Equipment (SE), I currently oversee maintenance, fault diagnosis, and supervision of other engineers. I am responsible for signing off completed maintenance tasks, coordinating all maintenance documentation, and communicating with the Project Team regarding new equipment, policy changes, and modifications to ensure their correct implementation at RAF Lossiemouth.Additionally, I currently liaise with the design authority by submitting System Enquiries and fault rectification paperwork to highlight current equipment faults. My team and I ensure compliance with all current legislation in the maintenance area, performing internal and external audits as part of the RAF Lossiemouth Quality Management System to review engineering practices in different sections.Through my leadership and expertise, I enable my team to excel in their roles and contribute to the safety and survival of pilots and crew in aircraft accidents or emergencies.

I provided essential support for the Squadron’s IQA programme. I coordinated the Squadron's Self-Audit plan, ensuring that all relevant topics were covered over the 12-month period. Additionally, I delegated audits to personnel within the Squadron and ensured that accurate post-audit reports were compiled.I effectively promoted all aspects of the unit's Quality Management System as detailed in the Unit Quality and Continuous Improvement Manual, demonstrating my comprehensive knowledge of the system. As part of my responsibilities, I managed databases and provided IT support to users.Overall, my contributions were instrumental in maintaining the high standards of the unit's IQA programme, promoting the quality management system, and ensuring that all audit requirements were met effectively.

As a Survival Equipment Specialist, also known as a Survival Equipment Technician in the RAF, I expertly maintain, modify, diagnose and repair Airborne Life Support Equipment and Pilot Flight Equipment for aircraft and crew members.In this role, I am a core team member responsible for performing safety-critical engineering at various locations in the UK and overseas. I have supported the operation of frontline aircraft, including RAF Typhoons, Tornadoes, Atlas, C17 Globemaster III, Poseidon and Apache. My responsibilities include maintaining Pilot Vision Enhancement Devices, protective helmets, oxygen masks, emergency locator beacons, life preservers, anti-G protection, emergency brake parachutes, life rafts, and survival packs. This critical work ensures the safety and survival of pilots and crew in aircraft accidents or emergencies.As a Survival Equipment Specialist, I have had the opportunity to deploy worldwide, providing support for air operations and training in locations such as Europe, USA, Middle East, South East Asia, and beyond. My career development also involves relocation every few years and diversification into a wide range of roles within and outside of my specialisations.
