Engineer, Center for Laser Micromachining - Executed production and managed customer relations for a ~$500K annual contract. This includes managing data, laboratory operations, and directing associates. - Utilized proprietary “Double Pulse” laser micromachining for drilling high aspect ratio holes in an ISO 9001 production environment. Experience in machining and protocols in a wide variety of materials including Ta/W, Au, DU, Mo, Si, Ni, Al, CVD Diamond and many others.- Selected new infrastructure and increased machining capabilities for the lab, including a new dry air system and the upgrading of a CNC system to 5 axes. Operational changes included improvements to data handling, record keeping, and custom software tools that cumulatively led to an annual time savings of >300 hours.- Developed a tool for balancing orders by estimating man hours and material costs.Wrote Python programs to aggregate data and generate summaries for quarterly/annual reports. - Merged old computer parts and equipment to bring a workstation back to life in order to meet pressing deadlines.

- Produced tunable lasers systems (Optical Parametric Oscillators) across several families of products that cover the far ultraviolet, through the visible spectrum, and to the mid-IR. - Acted as a field service engineer to provide on-site installations, training of customers, repairs, and preventative maintenance of systems.- Provided over-the-phone troubleshooting to customers.- Maintained detailed bills of materials.- Reviewed and performed quality control on outgoing laser systems

- Worked on a team developing a diode pumped alkali vapor laser to generate a 198nm continuous wave light source for silicon wafer inspection.- Programmed a Labview interface for rapidly changing experiments and data collection. This interface pulled together power meters, beam profilers, laser power supplies, temperature controllers, National Instruments DAQs, Spectrometers, and custom electronics—which greatly improved the productivity of the team.- Designed optical components, including a crystal oven design as well as mounts, gain cells, and other components in Solidworks.- Experienced in gas laser design, accessing laser performance, troubleshooting electronics, and modifying fiber coupled, high power laser diode bars.

- Worked in a university research group whose goal was studying the fundamental science needed for Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) and Fast Ignition Fusion. - Aligned complex optical systems for an ultra-fast, high-intensity laser systems, as well as diode laser spectroscopy and frequency mixing third harmonic generation of 800nm light. - Designed and built several diagnostics for this system, including a third-order 
cross-correlator.
