About Kimberly Reed

Kimberly A. Reed was the first woman Chairman, President, and CEO of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) where she worked to help companies to succeed in the competitive global marketplace. Reed currently serves on the Board of Directors of three public companies: Takeda Pharmaceuticals (TSE: 4502/NYSE: TAK); Momentus (NASDAQ: MNTS); and Hannon Armstrong Sustainable Infrastructure Capital (NYSE: HASI).Reed also is a Distinguished Fellow at the Atlantic Council Freedom and Prosperity Center and the Council on Competitiveness, and serves on the American Swiss Foundation Board of Directors, Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington Dean’s Alliance, Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue Advisory Council, and Hudson Institute's Alexander Hamilton Commission on Securing America’s National Security Innovation Base. She is a National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Certified Director, Council on Foreign Relations life member, and recipient of the U.S. Department of Defense's highest civilian award.Throughout her career—which includes a decade involved with food and agriculture—Reed has focused on leading transformational change; navigating geopolitical, regulatory, and legislative environments; engaging with government officials and influencers around the world; addressing risk; conducting oversight and investigations; and planning for future challenges. She has extensive international, government, nonprofit, and corporate experience and provides strategic advice to C-suite executives while building consumer trust. During her tenure at EXIM, Reed oversaw $135 billion in financing authority for loans, guarantees, and insurance to support the export of US goods and services to a potential 189 countries. She worked with high-level government officials, financial institutions, insurance companies, and businesses of all sizes in the U.S. and around the world.She previously served as President of the International Food Information Council Foundation; Senior Advisor to US Treasury Secretaries Henry Paulson and John Snow; CEO of the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund; and Counsel with the US Congress.Recognized as one of the “100 Women Leaders in STEM” and Washingtonian’s “Most Powerful Women in Washington,” Reed's prior Board service included entities such as the Alzheimer’s Association, National Coalition for Food and Agriculture Research, Tax Coalition, and WV Wesleyan College. She holds a JD from WV University College of Law and BS in biology and BA in government from WV Wesleyan College.

    During her tenure as EXIM Chairman, Ms. Reed reopened and transformed the 87-year old independent federal agency and managed a 515 person staff, a $110 million operating budget, and $135 billion in financing authority for loans, guarantees, and insurance to support tens of thousands of American jobs and the export of U.S. goods and services to a potential 189 countries. She was confirmed by the U.S. Senate with overwhelming bipartisan support (79-17), built strong relationships with lawmakers, and appeared often before Congress. EXIM’s clients ranged from Fortune 100 companies and small businesses in multiple sectors including industrial, healthcare, life sciences, financial services, insurance consumer products, telecommunications, and technology. Ms. Reed led bipartisan efforts to secure EXIM’s historic seven-year Congressional reauthorization, the longest in the bank’s history, and a significant new focus, the “Program on China and Transformational Exports,” to bolster U.S. business competitiveness, especially in ten innovative sectors (5G, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, high-performance computing, semiconductors, biomedical sciences, biotechnology, renewable energy and energy storage, water treatment and sanitation, and emerging financial technologies).
