My heart resides in politics, especially voter education and public school reform. After living in Saudi Arabia, England, and Hong Kong, I fell in love with the American democratic process while becoming a naturalized citizen. I explored career options during college, including serving as a Legislative Aide for Representative Tommy Williams and working on a voter redistricting project that opened my eyes to the repression of brown- and black-skinned communities. Although these experiences confirmed that political work would enable me to realize my values and ambitions, I followed my parents’ advice to go into law. Following a successful legal services career, I took a break to raise my children while volunteering for roles impacting critical policy issues. When the Texas Education Agency (TEA) usurped decision-making power from the Houston Independent School District’s (HISD) elected school board members, I applied to be on the Board of Managers to help fix my children’s public school district. Additionally, I served as a Poll Worker and as the Harris County Deputy Clerk for the 2020 election. What brings me joy outside of my family is hearing elections called for my candidate, facilitating first-time voters' participation, answering political questions for friends and colleagues, and celebrating the peaceful transfer of power with my kids to reinforce the importance of participating in the democratic process. Now that my kids are grown, I’m eager to become a driving force of positive change in Texas. I recently graduated from the LBJ Campaign School at UT Austin, where my team won the capstone project by creating and presenting the best campaign plan, despite having 2 fewer team members than the rest of the class. Now, I’m ready to apply my learning in a real-world environment.
