Managing DirectorQual-T Pharma Aug 2017 - Mar 2021Indore, Madhya Pradesh, IndiaEquipped with 8 years of first hand experience in healthcare and with a keen interest in patient care and safety, I embarked on a challenging journey of developing high quality OTC product line in India. Indian pharmaceutical Industry is highly competitive and often Patient safety, compliance and convenience is overlooked in an exchange of better profit margins. For instance, children paracetamol/ibuprofen liquid medicines are sold without caution or dosing instructions or any Patient information leaflets or even standard 5ml spoon. As a result, parents often end up over or under dosing their children or in worse case scenario using the medicine in contraindicated conditions e.g. ibuprofen in asthmatics or with a history of peptic ulcer. Combination drug therapy is another major malpractice which effectively forces patient to take additional medicines which they don't need and end up suffering from adverse drug reactions. For example, a chesty cough syrup will always come with sedative antihistamine and mostly will contain Ambroxol as an expectorant. Usually, cough syrup will contain combination of 4 medicines to treat symptoms of productive/non-productive cough, congestion, allergy, headache etc leaving patient with antimuscarinic side-effects, drowsiness etc. To overcome above problems and provide patients with something with proven therapeutic efficacy and better safely profile, I spend some time in understanding regulations around manufacturing, marketing and supply chain of OTC products. Then, all the aspects of manufacturing right from designing of packaging, PIL content, sourcing spoon and cartoon boxes to the selection of sweeteners, flavors etc were executed and final products were launched into the market. My efforts were recognized by State government of MP, India and also got published in newspapers. Due to Covid and other financial constraints, I came back to UK to continue with pharmacist job. The whole experience was magical and fulfilling.
