DR. ABDUL REEZAL ABDUL LATIFDr. Abdul Reezal is a PhD holder in Biotechnology. He obtained his PhD from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland in 1999, three years after graduating from the same university in 1995 in Food Science and Microbiology.After completing his PhD, Reezal returned to Malaysia to serve as an Assistant Professor and researcher at the Faculty of Food Science and Biotechnology, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) from 1999 – 2003. At UPM he carried out research projects on Bioreactor technology and medical microbiology.In 2003, Reezal left the academic world to pursue an entrepreneurship career in the private sector. Through a joint venture with AMCORP Group, he established a biotechnology company. As the ‘technopreneur’ CEO, he carried out research and commercialisation in the field of healthcare under the flagship company of KL Biotech Manufacturing Sdn Bhd.On the back of his strong research and commercialisation exposure, he was handpicked to join Unit Inovasi Khas (UNIK) under the Prime Minister’s Office and later absorbed into Agensi Inovasi Malaysia (AIM) in 2010 under the Prime Minister’s Department. At AIM Reezal led a unit called Innoaccelerator to accelerate innovative collaborations between private sector and research institutions before he was identified to head a medical device company under the Selangor State Government to address various operational issues to bring the company into its actual operation.Reezal was formerly the Executive Director and CEO of Steinbeis Malaysia Foundation under AIM. Steinbeis is based on a German model to bridge experts from the academia and industry to assist Small and Medium Enterprises in solving their technical and non-technical issues.Dr Reezal now is the President/CEO of a joint UK-Malaysia Biotechology company specialising in digital platforms for medical devices and mircobiology diagnostics.
