I first became involved with Willistown Conservation Trust as a volunteer for their Bird Conservation Program where I received training to extract songbirds from mist nets and attach metal identification bands. After one migration season, I began an internship in the newly established Watershed Protection Program. For 6 months as an intern I assisted with water quality monitoring before being promoted to my current role as a Conservation Associate.In my current role, I have...- Identified and wrote grants to various funding agencies (e.g., private, state, federal), which cumulatively secured $55,600 to fund the Watershed Protection Program’s operations and restoration projects. Currently, I am writing the grant to acquire funding for the second phase of WCT’s Watershed Protection Program. To this end, I have worked intimately with the Director of Watershed Protection to design the Program’s future priorities.- Collaborated with Director of Watershed Protection to design and manage Willistown Conservation Trust’s partnership-driven approach to water quality monitoring and conservation under the Delaware River Watershed Initiative.- Wrote publications (e.g., press releases, articles) sharing the Watershed Protection Program’s research and successes for an audience of non-scientists.- Produced interim reports on grant deliverables- Designed environmental curriculum and collaboratively led children aged 7-12 years old through interactive stream walks, macroinvertebrate sampling, and other watershed health-based education programs. - Monitored water quality across 10 monitoring sites in the headwaters of three streams. - Cooperated with team of 8-12 volunteer hawk watchers to count migrating raptors and engage the public with our on-going research activities.- Developed raptor identification skills using binoculars and tripod-mounted scopes under variable weather conditions.- Improved wildlife handling abilities by extracting raptors from nets, performing anatomical measurements, and fitting each raptor with a metal identification band.- Wrote and published daily migration count data reports online. - Achieved accreditation as a GGRO “Site Leader”.
