I recently earned my Ph. D. in soil microbiology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. My research area is soil viruses, including their impact on nutrient cycling and microbial population dynamics, as well as soil virus transport. Previously, I earned my B.S. at Virginia Tech in 2016 in Environmental Science. During my time there, I worked in the Virginia Tech Lab of Environmental Microbiology researching water quality, soil quality, and bioretention cells. I am looking for a post-doctoral research position in soil microbiology, with a focus on soil metagenomics.

Worked on multiple research projects, including: - A water quality project surveying the environmental conditions of Blacksburg’s waterways on a weekly basis by collecting and processing water samples and performing quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) studies to determine the presence of human fecal markers;- A soil quality project based in Senegal looking at the effects of iron toxicity on rice plants by performing qPCR to determine the iron-reducing bacteria colony in samples from the Senegalese rice fields, and by performing a controlled greenhouse experiment to test the effects of media and water drainage on iron reducing bacteria colonies;- A bioretention cell project to determine the limiting factor of nitrogen reduction in a bioretention cell by setting up controlled experiments to test saturation time, nitrogen inputs, and total organic carbon content by analyzing the nutrient levels in the inflow and outflow water, as well as by testing the soil for denitrifying bacteria using qPCR.

Researched the environmental and urban planning implications of Alexandria’s Combined Sewer Systems (CSS) (where sewage and rainwater flow in the same drains) by performing site visits to sewage outfalls, monitoring wastewater flow, and examining city plans. This information was then compiled into a webpage for Alexandria’s residents in order to educate them on what a CSS is and why their taxes are being used to separate the wastewater and storm drains for the reduction of pollutant load into the Chesapeake Bay.
