A student once challenged me to find a single misspelling in a thousand word document in under five minutes. I told him that was too easy. Instead, I said to italicize one letter and I'd find it in three. He chose an 'o'.To say I have an eagle eye for editing is true, but it's even truer to say that my sharpness applies to all aspects of my role. From scanning every letter in a sixty page magazine to ensure it's ready for print, to analyzing a grant database to find viable funding opportunities, being organized and detail-oriented is not a byproduct, it's the bare minimum.But when I reflect on my work experience, the first things I consider aren't metrics and deliverables. Instead, I think of looking forward to saying good morning to the people who were strangers months ago. I think of the notes of gratitude from students who told me that English used to be their least favorite subject, or that they started reading the book I recommended and actually really loved it. I think of the relationships I've built on a foundation of mutual respect, trust, and collaboration.When I think of my work experience, I think not only of ‘what’, but ‘who’.
