I help people to better understand how the digital economy continues to transform public policy, focused on competition, fair relationships, and the economics of data. I like to focus on messy realities rather than high-level ideals. I'm particularly proud of work that I've done with the Fundamental Rights Agency of the European Union on artificial intelligence, leading a team that spoke with 100 public and private organisations across five countries, on how they incorporated ethics and fundamental rights into their development and implementation. Another study I led for the European Parliament also demonstrated how an ethical framework for artificial intelligence would likely lead to economic benefit--a result that even surprised me!
