As far back as I can remember, I’ve held a crayon, pencil, or paintbrush in my hands. I’ve always loved creating things. When I started college as an architecture major, I fully believed that I would become an architect. The 2008 financial crisis changed that. While completing my degree, I found a new interest – planning. I decided to switch career paths, but my experiences as an architecture student have stayed with me and helped me become the public and community servant I am today. Through designing within the built environment and understanding how people move through spaces, I’ve developed an appreciation of both physical space and the experience of the people who occupy it. I also developed a toolbox of skills including public speaking, project management, and graphic design.Form, function, and feeling all have influence over how communities develop or decline. Creating safe, sustainable communities for citizens of all ages and backgrounds is important to me, and I work hard to put design and knowledge into practice toward that end. I’ve had the pleasure of working and volunteering in 3 states in housing, community development, planning, and grant writing/administration. This came in the form of:·
