Executive Officer, 2nd in Command for a 250+ person, Active Duty, Cargo Handling Battalion, which is a rapidly deployable operating unit of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet. Our unit is capable of loading/discharging ships and aircraft under all-climatic and threat conditions. Significant missions include annual deployments to Antarctica (Operation Deep Freeze), Da Nang, Republic of Vietnam in 1965 and Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Storm. In December 2002 the Battalion made a wartime deployment to Camp Patriot, Kuwait where it remained for 11 months offloading and later backloading USMC combat gear and ammunition. Most recently, the Battalion has deployed in support of Operation Unified Response-Haiti, as well as assignment to an Air Cargo Detachment in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. We are the Navy's only Active-Duty Cargo Handling Battalion.
