Early in my college journey, I discovered the field of Sociology, which provided me with a unique perspective that balances individual and systemic viewpoints on the world. Alongside Sociology, I pursued a degree in communications. After graduating, my aspiration was to apply the insights gained from my studies to the realm of public service. This aspiration led me to join the Fresno Housing Authority, where I began to integrate the skills I had cultivated during my academic journey into my daily work. This position has served as a platform for honing and refining these skills in a practical setting. In the span of the last four years, I have been deeply immersed in the affordable housing sector, garnering invaluable experiential insights. Functioning as a Property Specialist across various Renaissance sites in Fresno, I've been instrumental in addressing socioeconomic challenges. The Renaissance properties are dedicated to serving the chronically homeless population, and I am actively engaged in the implementation of the housing first model. Through this program, we directly transition chronically homeless individuals from the streets to stable housing, with comprehensive wrap-around services aiding their reintegration. This role has significantly enriched my understanding of public policy, particularly in the realm of low-income housing, and I am eager to further expand upon this knowledge and experience.
