Blacksburg, Virginia

Developed customer service skills by interacting with patrons and showing them around the building as well as guiding them to their seats. Played an active role as a team member on a team of 15 employees to ensure the patrons had a pleasant time at the Moss Arts Center. Always alert on the job and quickly reacted to any emergency.

Jun 2014 - Dec 2017

Kitchen Supervisor

Middleburg, Virginia

Applied independent critical thinking under high stress situations to come up with a solution. Worked through situations such as strategizing which products to use for specific meals when there was a shortage in the original amount made. Independently made an outline of what food had to be made for each day, what time I needed to start making the food and what time the food needed to be done by. Paid attention to detail when calculating the amount of people, we needed to feed for each meal, since it changed each day. Made sure that the people with allergic food reactions had their meals cooked and stored separately. Lead a team of 5 employees and determined the best strategy for the most efficient way to make high quality food on time for 340 campers and counselors. Developed excellent communication and listening skills. As a supervisor, I listened to my supervisees whenever they had a suggestion to change the way we were doing things. Listened to them if they ever had a complaint about one another or about me and worked with them to reconcile those issues. I communicated with them on what I expected from each of them and what they should expect from me. Encouraged and inspired my team to do their best and to never get down on themselves whenever they made a mistake. I inspired them to do their best by showing them how hard I worked, and I verbally encouraged them to do their best when they started to get tired of working.

Jun 2017 - Aug 2017

Camp Counselor

Boswell, Pensylvania

Trained children, ages 8-18, in a variety of sports and activities. I taught them football, volleyball, canoeing, and archery. I also taught them that it is okay to lose, as long as they tried their hardest to win. Motivated children to be the best they can be. As their counselor, I wanted them to give their best when they competed, and I wanted them to be the best person when they competed: to be honest if they stepped out of bounds, to help a player on the opposing team if they got hurt, or to encourage one another if they were losing and not playing so well. Listened and helped children when they were having a bad day. If they were sad because they lost a competition, or they were homesick, I listened to their concerns and let them know that I was there for them whenever they needed me. Learned how to be extremely patient. Sometimes, children do not listen, and they are disobedient. I had to learn to be patient with them and realize that they were often not being bad on purpose. Even if they were being bad on purpose, it was up to me to show them how to behave in tough situations. Developed public speaking skills through giving speeches to 360 campers and counselors on two different occasions.
