About Regina Miranda

I am a choreographer and Laban Movement Analyst, active in theater and movie direction, with a private practice as Career Coach. My understanding of dramaturgy, gesture/posture fluency, body-space dynamics, group configurations and collective work have been the grounds to fostering people's creative potential, supporting them to find their niche of excellence in whatever path they choose. I enjoy the transit between a successful artistic career and activities as a performing arts curator and cultural activist. I lecture and teach internationally, mentoring professionals and sharing expertise in processes of personal, artistic and cultural transformation. In Rio, I was the Pedagogical Project Designer and have been the Co-Coordinator/ Faculty member of the Specialization Program in LABAN/Bartenieff Movement System at FAV. I enjoy working with different artists, but my core artistic space has been the ActorsDancers Co., the choreographic theater company I founded and direct since 1980. In addition, I directed public and private cultural institutions in Rio and NYC, developing the Rio Creative City 2010-2020 project; 5 editions of the International Forum Rio Creative City, and 6 International LABAN Conferences. I also published ” Body-Space”, “Expressive Movement” and “Laban Lead”, organized and collaborated with the book "Culture as Fourth Pillar of Development"; and created "Corpo Coletivo", which proposes Interactive public performance as a way to engage with citizens and city life. My gratitude for the LABAN/Bartenieff Institute, LIMS NY - where 50 years ago I specialized in the System that conceptually structures my work -, motivated me to work and live between Rio and NYC for 19 years, during which I was LIMS' Director of Arts & Culture (2001 - 2019), and also served twice as its Chief Executive Officer. In 2018, I thought it was time to move back to Brazil and work internationally. Since then, I wrote and directed three award winning plays - “NAITSU”(2018), “Romola & Nijinsky” (2019), and “Eyes of the Skin” (2023), wrote and directed 5 poetic short films, wrote and co-directed the feature film "Women In Auschwitz: Writings of Resistance", continue to direct the LABAN Rio (www.labanrio.com) and to work as a mentor for professionals of multiple fields. I am honored to have recently been bestowed the Brazilian National Foundation of Arts' prestigious award - “Masters of Brazilian Arts” (2023).Specialties: Performing Arts; Cultural Programs' Development; Cross-Cultural Fluency; Career Choices and Reorientation; Public Speaking; Cultural Competency;
