What a cool career I have! I get to professionally nerd out, every single day. As a teen services librarian and advocate, I work hard to make young adults feel heard while also educating adults and other professionals about the unique opportunity there is in working with and listening to them. I love to sneak in broad themes through creative outlets, (like playing GTA to explore urban themes, or teaching them to podcast as an avenue for expressing their thoughts). I love working with teens because they’re facing a lot, and could use a good friend and ally to help them through it. Also, teens are hilarious. Talk to a few when you get the chance! As a blogger and infertility advocate, I use words and outreach to provide support and resources to those who have been affected by reproductive health difficulties through my organization The Broken Brown Egg, Inc.. As a member of the Board of Directors for Fertility Within Reach, a patient advocacy group, I hope to help provide families and individuals with the tools that they need to become empowered in their journeys toward parenthood. I love to connect people to the resources and support systems needed for navigating what can be a devastating time in their lives.I thrive among energetic, creative, and visionary people who are committed to being the change they wish to see. I am passionate about community service, kindness, and continual development and enrichment. I hold professional and personal memberships in organizations that share these values, such as the American Library Association (ALA), Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), the inaugural blog team behind Teen Services Underground, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. Outside of gaming and library/museum hopping, my largest hobby is graphic design and marketing, where I’ve learned that all my different avenues tend to connect! My Players 2 + 3 are my husband and son, Jahbari and Judah.

I curate a collection of print and electronic materials and resources for young adults including fiction and nonfiction titles, video games and apps, graphic novels and manga, as well as movies, documentaries, and television shows. I work to expose our teens to volunteer opportunities, alternative career paths, and hands-on learning experiences. I am dedicated to providing teens with a full, immersive, and empowering program in our library that encourages them to carry the skills and confidence acquired here out into the community. My philosophy is not to give teens what I would have wanted as a teen, but to treat them how I would have liked to be treated. Another passion of my position here is in educating adults about teen behavior and development. Show less -
