If I had to choose two words to describe why I chose to study information technology and systems (ITS) out of the vast number of possible degrees, it would be "interconnectedness" and "versatility." Not only does ITS bring the disciplines of business and computer science together into one field of study, but information technology also plays a role in and impacts education and healthcare. In my first few weeks as an ITS student at The University of Texas at Dallas, I have been able to further understand the significance of this field of study in an age of technology and its focus on people, problem solving, business processes and technology.My peers, friends, and instructors have described me as someone who is detail-oriented, communicative, and enthusiastic about the tasks I undertake. In the past, I have had experience in leadership and community service through my participation in social clubs such as the Muslim Student Association at my previous school, where I was the Vice President. In this role, one of my main goals was to create a beneficial and comfortable environment in which people could connect with one another while learning valuable things and experiencing volunteering and involvement in the surrounding community.Along with obtaining a degree in Information Technology, I am interested in completing a minor in Healthcare Management or Healthcare Studies as the field of healthcare and its relationship with technology is something that really interests me. Upon graduation, I plan to pursue a career in Health Information Technology or as a Systems Analyst. I am excited to pursue a career in which I can help find solutions to problems in businesses through a technological perspective.
