I work with chemical and petrochemical companies in securing their interests through patents, licenses, trade secret protection, and trademarks; and ensure their ability to conduct their operations free of third party interference through careful patentability and freedom-to-operate studies. Applying my 19 years of experience as a practicing chemical engineer with my 13 years of legal experience as a patent and trademark attorney, 9 of those as in-house counsel at a multi-national chemical company, I obtain patent coverage for chemical products and processes, draft and negotiate confidentiality and joint development agreements, draft and successfully prosecute patent applications, and write legal opinions for the business units relating to freedom-to-operate and non-infringement. Having optimized existing unit operations, and developed new processes by working with R&D personnel as an Engineer, I add value to my clients because I speak the language of the technical professionals and business managers who run chemical and petrochemical companies and bring over 32 years of direct industry experience to the table. My primary technological experience is in separations (liquid/liquid and liquid/solid) and catalytic processes, in particular fluid catalytic cracking processes.
