Growing up I was always drawn to math, science, and problem solving, so engineering was a natural fit. I enjoy the way my brain must work to solve engineering problems. It can be challenging at times, but the solution is always rewarding. In my opinion, an engineering solution can be as beautiful as a piece of art.Although I am in the early stage of my engineering career, I have been able to gain professional experience in many different disciplines, such as structural design, construction quality control, manufacturing reliability, and environmental consulting. Because of my diverse background, I thrive in a fast-paced, highly technical environment and can communicate complex engineering ideas to people in different fields. Last October, I passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and now am strengthening my skills and knowledge further by working towards obtaining my Professional Engineering license. I had one particularly challenging project that had multiple elements of the building that were failing structurally. I corrected the loading conditions and redesigned several elements to avoid failure and interference. I also had to design the door support jams and the foundation for catenary loading due to an overhead door. These solutions took me to reading the design procedures, using design spreadsheets and tables, and further trial and error. Fortunately, I was able to navigate this project and finish with a structurally stable building design.
