As a Solution Architect in the data architecture group, Jeff was responsible for developing and managing data stores from operational data through to analytics. This includes data store resiliency, data replication to other stores, and managing performance. He lead the migration of one of the largest Guidewire ClaimCenter implementations in the world, to the cloud. As a Sr. Technology Architect, Jeff is now leading a migration effort to get the rest of the company off the mainframe in a modernization effort.

As a senior architect in enterprise architecture at CNA, he was part of the enterprise architecture center of excellence group and was responsible for process improvements with business, data, application, and technology architecture groups. Duties included driving enterprise process improvements around people, process and technologies across all IT functional/process areas. This included architecture best practices such as establishing standards around current and future state architectural descriptions, aligning business and IT strategies, providing architectural roadmaps, and the establishment and governance of enterprise standards. He was also responsible for performance engineering vision, processes, best practices and adoption. Jeff was also a lead architect for a number of program/project level implementations including their Financial Systems Roadmap and Claims Strategy.

As systems architect of advanced technology at CME, he was responsible for business, application and data architecture and worked hand-in-hand with the infrastructure architecture group. Duties included over-arching architecture for application, trade flow and data, massive parallelism of the trading systems, vendor relationships, software methodology standards and procedures with IBM Rational Unified Process (RUP) and policy management / best practices using a component based application framework. His responsibilities included providing the architectural vision and realized the vision around scalability, performance, reliability, manageability, flexibility and maintainability. CME is a Linux / Java-J2EE shop using Tibco Rendezvous for messaging and Tibco Hawk for real-time monitoring as well as Oracle and Berkeley DB database technologies for transactional management.

As Partner he worked as a senior consultant on the management consulting team. Acted as a technology consultant for a number of start-up companies as well as business and financial planning. As a senior consultant, architected and developed a number of systems using Java/J2EE and Oracle technologies.

As Senior Manager of BI worked with Arthur Andersen’s Worldwide Risk Management group consulting on data-mining tools and their possible uses within the Arthur Andersen Risk Management area and provided direction about how data-mining techniques could be deployed throughout the risk management area. Conceived of having centralized competencies to develop re-usable data models that can be easily deployed and find low-hanging fruit in areas such as credit risk, claims, fraud, customer churn, cross-selling, computer security, computer traffic analysis, etc.

As VP of SWE he managed three teams with a headcount of around fifteen engineers. He followed a strict project methodology that includes teaming up with business analysts to work out business requirements and project costs to help with approval and funding. Once approved, we turn the requirements into specifications (functional, logical and physical models, data flows, work flows, etc.) and develop project plans and schedules to track progress. The project work has given him broad working knowledge of VLDBs, operational DBs and Data Warehousing solutions, as well as their relationships to business units. The position also gave him the experience of relationship building between clients and the development process so that we may provide the best service possible as well as continual improvement.
