My time as a Principal Software Engineer has taken me across a variety of opportunities, and exposed me to a variety of challenges which I have led my teams through leading to positive outcomes for my team members and our organisation.Since June 2024, I have been leading an engineering team in Liberty's Surety organization.From July 2023 to June 2024, I acted as the engineering lead within a three stranded Product-Architecture-Engineering team to help identify how Liberty IT can best help Liberty Mutual progress the complex challenges faced in modernising our complex policy eco-system. This initially involved in depth analysis and plenty of relationship building, before transitioning into a role scaling out multiple squads of engineers to complete the activities we had identified we needed to undertake. In this role I act to support the technical leads of the individual squads in navigating our technical landscape.Prior to that, from April 2022 to June 2023; I led a team of up to twelve engineers in the delivery of a quoting API for a Bancassurance partner in Western Europe. In this role, I acted with several solutions engineers to advance Liberty Mutual's global API capability; and provided leadership to multiple teams in doing so. This role required me to have an in depth understanding of our requirements, which I needed to both help the team navigate and convert to API contracts. This engagement culminated with me leading the handover of this capability to an in market team for go forward operation.My first principal role entailed leading the handover of our Kotlin & AWS based micro-service ecosystem to a team of contractors for continued maintenance. This presented a challenge due to the domain and technical knowledge that I needed to support others in transferring, but it ultimately resulted in a positive outcome.
