As EMS Coordinator I have the responsibilities of acting as our compliance/training officer. This means my main role involves keeping our unit certifications (BLS ambulance, board of pharmacy certification, CILA license, etc.) and our member certifications (NREMT, SC DHEC, etc.) up to date so that we are in compliance with our state and national regulations. I oversee the daily operations of our 30+ EMTs, perform quality analysis of patient care reports, as well as train and orient new members. This is done through holding two team trainings a month, followed by two new member orientations each month, where we go over skills, current literature, new studies pertinent to our patient care, etc. I also am responsible for communication/planning with other faculty of the college about our team, events/training (CPR, Stop the Bleed classes) that we offer. I also am the main chain of communication between our team and Charleston County EMS and our Medical Control Physician for planning and implementing of new protocols and procedures for our team.
Senior Supervisor / Emt
I currently work as a Senior Supervisor for CofC EMS. I previously held the role of Deputy Director for 2019 and have been a Crew Chief from 2019-present. CofC EMS is a BLS emergency medical service that cover the College of Charleston campus and complete mutual aid calls for Charleston County EMS when requested off campus. Our most notable change was an increase in gluteus medius strength. Was selected to present at an American College of Sports Medicine Conference.
Musc Volunteer
Helped hospital patients onto transport devices (ex. wheelchairs), secured them in place, confirmed their patient information, and ensured safe and comfortable transport to the correct part of the hospital. It was essential to have good interpersonal skills and work as a team with hospital staff to keep the patients calm and informed when moving them. Learned how to interact with patients to ensure their comfort during transport. At the destination, I would carefully help them out of the transport device and into the hospital bed, stretcher, car, etc. Utilized a pager to receive information.
