The ALARA Specialist position is responsible for ensuring the proper radiological safety controls are used for work in Radiation areas through development and implementation of Radiation Work Permits and ALARA plans to ensure accumulated dose is kept As Low As Reasonably Achievable.I am also responsible for the maintenance and implementation of remote monitoring programs such as network cameras, communication equipment and dose tracking telemetry to enable workers in radiation areas to be remotely monitored to reduce dose received by support personnel.I am also responsible for development of the dose excellence plan, procedures and I run the Dose Advocate program which reinforces communication amongst various work groups to identify dose reduction opportunities in ongoing work.

I manage the Portable Instrument Program, Sealed Source Program, Digital Plant Viewer Program, Access Control Program, and Remote Monitoring Program, in support of the Radiation Protection Program at LaSalle Nuclear Generating Station in IL.Portable Instrument Program Manager- oversee all portable radiation survey instruments and egress monitors- ensure instruments are properly calibrated and serviceable to support plant needs- experience with calibrating ARGOS 5AB, SAM-12, PM-12.- experience with calibrating Shepherd 89 and 10 calibrator sources- experience with Sentinel softwareSealed Source Program Manager- maintain an inventory of several hundred sealed radioactive sources used in various plant activities such as instrument calibrations and instrument source response checks- ensure the sources remain accounted for and are in serviceable condition and activity level to support plant needs- procure additional sources as the need arises- oversee proper disposal or long term storage of unneeded sourcesDigital Plant Viewer Program Manager- coordinate the production and maintenance of LaSalle's Digital Plant Viewer program- includes: - maps of the entire facility - 360 degree image tours of the entire facility - incorporation of active live stream cameras, heat stress monitors, air monitors, and rad area monitors- purpose is to provide more familiarity with the plant, improved training opportunities and dose reductionAccess Control Program Manager- control equipment used for verifying access to Radiation Control Area such as: electronic dosimetry log in stations and turnstiles used to verify electronic dosimetry and RWP.Remote Monitoring Program Manager- coordinate setup and installation of in plant cameras- experience working with Genetec Security Center software- coordinate setup and installation of remote area radiation monitors and wireless telemetry for dosimetry- experience with Alaracast remote monitoring software
