Our Foundation works to help restore and maintain the two billion dollars in art and structures that comprise the Hearst Castle complex. We also support the Castle's goals of educating young people about the historic value of the Hearst collection. Eighty-seven percent of the income generated by Hearst Castle visitors goes to maintain California's free state parks. Our work, and the work of other groups such as the Friends of Hearst Castle, is essential in attempting to maintain the Castle's unique collection and place in the history of California.

The National Monuments Foundation's purpose is to create self-sustaining destination landmarks of national historical and aesthetic relevance, as well as centers for cultural, civic and social activities for local and greater communities in America.

The FoolProof Foundation teaches young people and adults the importance of being a skeptic when it comes to spending money and making choices that can impact their pocketbook, their health, or their general welfare. All FoolProof's programs are free to all consumers and are completely advertising and agenda-free: we advocate only for the consumer.FoolProof's curriculums are the only financial literacy/consumer life skills curriculums in the United States endorsed by the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood, Public Citizen, the National Association of Consumer Advocates and the Consumer Federation of America. Walter Cronkite was instrumental in the founding of FoolProof. The Walter Cronkite Project's goal is "FoolProof, free, in every school. Now."

I founded the Coalition, which monitors privacy issues in all fifty states and contains approximately 125 groups involved in privacy issues.

Our group is a philanthropic trust. Our Governors over the years have included Peter Jennings, Win Rockefeller, Walter Cronkite, George Plimpton, and Jean-Michel Cousteau. As a Governor of the Trustees, I assist in acquiring new lands for the park system, hosting international delegations in the BVI and in Europe, and coordinating environmental initiatives with other countries and territories.

We monitor auto issues relating to the retail auto industry. As President of CTFA, I have also worked with the Annie E. Casey Foundation and the Aspen Institute as a pro bono consultant on the topic of and author of a special study on "Car Financing for Low And Moderate Income Consumers."

As a consumer advocate, I have served as a consultant, on-air authority, author, or subject for the following media: Dateline NBC, Twenty-Twenty, Sixty Minutes, Ted Koppel’s Nightline, CNN, ABC Primetime, Good Morning America, TODAY, CBS Morning News,NPR, Newsweek, TIME magazine, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, PBS television’s News Hour with Jim Lehrer, and PEOPLE magazine. I have also served as a pro bono consultant to six state attorneys general and various national consumer organizations, including Consumers Union, Public Citizen, The Annie E. Casey Foundation, The Aspin Institiute, and the Center for Auto Safety. I have also been a visiting faculty member at the Practicing Law Institute. I also served as a monthly columnist for Credit Union Times magazine for many years.

I am an author of three non-fiction books at Penguin and the author of two fiction books at British American Publishing and the Mysterious Press.

Anne Randolph Hearst and I restructured the Hearst Castle Preservation Foundation in 2003. Our goal was to amplify the Foundation's impact on helping preserve and conserve Hearst Castle's role as a major funder of California's free state parks. Our key associates in this restructuring were Joseph Tobin and Greg Hampton.
