  IT Officer (Infrastructure)Role Purposes: Develop, implement, maintain, monitor and support the Council-wide IT infrastructure (and partners). Operational activities to complete the required batch processing, operation and control of business critical systems.1. Project tasks and proactive support on the Council’s (and partners) infrastructure. Technical areas include but are not limited to:- a) Internet and intranet infrastructure b) Operating system software c) Database administration d) System and account management e) Server farm including backup and recovery mechanisms f) Data centre management g) Release and patch management h) Change management i) Business continuity and disaster recovery j) Email k) Security including anti-virus, event filtering, monitoring and logging l) Distributed printing m) Forensics n) Data network o) Voice network p) Network management q) Virtual server infrastructure r) Virtual desktop infrastructure s) Application management (in house and third party systems).2. Specify IT solutions to meet the requirements of the Council.3. Monitor system performance and usage to ensure high availability is maintained.4. Implement, maintain and advise on the use of database and transaction processing software.5. Design, implement and maintain rigorous security arrangements compliant with Government / Council requirements and industry best practice.6. Provide relevant technical documentation.7. Resolve allocated incidents and service requests in target timescales liaising with third party suppliers as necessary.8. During shift work:- a) Complete activities under the direction of the Shift Leader to ensure that all operational requirements are met (on time and to required standards) b) Complete batch processing requirements including scheduling, preparation of job sheets and the checking of control totals under the direction of the Shift Leader.
