About Remi Smith
I find that dreaming big is often discouraged in society these days. We are told to to dream big but that ideal is never really enforced as we are taught to be practical and seek security. We are taught to take the path of least resistance and to keep our heads down. Let me just say, I have never been one to take the easy road. I believe in dreaming big and I like to think that I am the type of person who goes after what they want. I currently work as a Corporate Business Development representative in property management software at AppFolio. Taking on a new full time role with so much industry crossover, has only strengthened my communication and multitasking skills. I recently graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with my BA in marketing. Being both a full time student and full time employee was a challenge to say the least. i received a lot of input and feedback advising that I should narrow my focus, prioritize, and take it easy. However, to me, the experience I gained from my development at Appfolio as well as workload I managed while earning my degree helped prepare me for a fast paced work environment. Why settle for less when I can work hard and achieve the goals I have set for myself? Why remain stagnant when you can dream big?Dreaming big did not stop with the attainment of my degree. Some future career goals of mine are to continue to develop my sales and communication skills in my current role so that I may utilize them for my career development. Beyond this the possibilities are endless. The main component that I admire about marketing is that there are rarely limitations to what you can accomplish and to me this embodies the idea of "dreaming big".

Honestly, I love my job at C.H Robinson. I did not expect to like logistics and to be frank I did not understand what logistics even was until I started this position. Logistics in terms of my position as an operations representative essentially means moving freight from the point of origin to the point of consumption. My typical day involves tracking shipments or loads, building and creating orders, reaching out to different carriers such as FedEx or UPS, communicating with customers directly to ensure satisfaction with services, managing inboxes as well as handling various accounts and folders. Fortunately for me, this position is something new every day and not at all boring. I have honed in on my organizational and time management skills as well gained even more experience in my communication, customer service, data entry, and computer skills. I would highly recommend applying to this position for any interested applicants.

My position at Chipotle is the basis of majority of my current skills. I know that to some, food service might not come across as being applicable in the corporate world. However, the skills I gained from this job were absolutely essential to my transition from entry level food service to management and eventually to logistics. A typical day at Chipotle involved interacting and serving customers, taking orders across a multitude of platforms, handling conflict resolution among consumers and employees alike, creating schedules, executing training plans and managing sales and budgets. Chipotle also played a pivotal role in my introduction to computer software in a business setting and using that to manage the onboarding, training, and order processes. This was also the first position in which I managed money directly and was responsible for the security and safety of the store and team. Ultimately this job gave me a plethora of skills that I currently use at the positions that have followed it.
