Rena Dharmawan Email and Phone Number
I’m a surgeon-innovator, educator, and former biomedical engineer, obsessed with creating value and driving positive change in healthcare, particularly in the training of our next-generation clinician-innovators. I embark on what some may call a “unique medical career”, incorporating innovation into my clinical practice wherever possible. Key highlights in my career include co-inventing two medical patents (Instalief™ & SwabBot™), being one of the founding members of Asia’s top home-care operator: Jaga-Me, and earning recognition as one of the “Leaders of Tomorrow” for healthcare in the Tatler Gen.T 2022 list. Currently a consultant surgeon in the Division of Surgery and Surgical Oncology at the National Cancer Centre Singapore, I’m also assistant dean and professor for clinical innovation and ecosystem development at the Duke-NUS Medical School, where I initiated a healthcare innovation programme that aims to become a venture-building incubator. Launched in 2022, the 𝗗𝘂𝗸𝗲 𝗡𝗨𝗦 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 (𝗗𝗛𝗜𝗣) is a first-of-its-kind fellowship programme that brings together a multi-disciplinary team of students, mentors, and quad-partite collaboration across industry, engineers, business, and healthcare to develop technology solutions to real, unmet clinical needs and bring them to commercialisation. The innovation theme for the inaugural batch is “Women’s Health & FemTech”. In partnership with KKH hospital, the teams will work on Obstetrics and Gynecological needs. Through DHIP, I hope to inspire the next generation of clinician-innovators, empower aspiring healthtech/medtech entrepreneurs, and facilitate multi-disciplinary collaboration in healthcare innovation. I’d be discussing healthcare innovation topics and sharing DHIP updates (and an occasional post of my proud mother moments with my two feisty, free-spirited kids) on my page. Please feel free to chime in with your perspective!
