Founder And Executive Artistic DirectorFilms That Move Aug 2011 - PresentCape Charles, VirginiaFounder and Artistic Director of Films that Move which gathers over 50 artists from all over the world to convene on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay with a mission to create new short films inspired by the people and places of historic, small-town America. FTM bridges the space of performance between stage, screen and site, offering art-soaked weekends in a scenic beach town in Virginia, hours from New York, Philadelphia and Washington DC. Artists live and work together and in dialogue with the public, nurturing deep relationships, collaborations and an exchange that is imperative to artistic growth while stimulating local economy and building an identity for the small town as a cultural tourism destination. At FTM, we consider the screen a “playground” and focus on building a narrative of storytelling, composition, rhythm, movement and sound design that reflect the people, place and texture of “now”, offering filmmaking as a universal language for artists from every discipline and a vehicle for collaboration, experimentation and public engagement. This unique artist residency goes beyond the two week programming: the impact, potential and life of these films lives on as the films become a means for promotion of cultural tourism for small towns in need of economic revitalization and for that location to gain popularity as an artist hotspot with fun, accessible cultural events. These films become a starting place for workshops, discussion and expression through the screen: for professionals and students alike.
