Design of custom Marine Winches for the Offshore ROV, Oil and Gas, and fishing industries.

-Experience in the design of high volume die-cast and injection molding complex components, including the use of mold slides. Components were designed for ease of lighting fixture assembly.-Proper material had to be chosen with the correct properties for compliance to standards.-Working closely with the manufacturing department to ensure the solution works best for everybody.-Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was also performed to ensure proper part strength required to pass various testing, such as luminaire vibration.-Development of new optical lenses specifically tailored to road standards. Uniform light spread on the road was essential while reducing glare light and maintaining good optical efficiency. The injection molded lenses were modeled in SolidWorks and simulated in ASAP, a Fortran based ray tracing software.

Masters Research May 2009 ­ Present Design of a novel Micro Electromechanical Systems (MEMS) thermal actuator capable of 2 degrees of freedom. Setup of the lab equipment for testing under the microscope including signal generation and measurement methods. Development and assembly of test equipment for out-of-plane measurements using an optical camera. A combination of LabVIEW and MatLab was used to collect and analyze data.

Performed research in the field of Micro-electromechanical Systems (MEMS). Developed a vision assisted positioning program in LabVIEW capable of 3 DOF control and sequencing complex motion using waypoints. Drafted and built a macro version of a 3 DOF planar frictional crawler using r/c servos and UHMW plastic. The 3D modeler NX5 was used for the drafting.

Drafting in Microstation to vectorize existing ship structural raster drawings. Familiarity with complex ship systems was gained. Modeled exterior components of the Navy frigates in Rhinoceros for RADAR cross section analysis. These models had to be built with flat triangular 3D faces. Specification work compromising of researching existing shipboard system. The majority of the work has been performed with the damage control system and human engineering.

Overseeing contract work along with renovation design in AutoCAD. Design of a small parking lot in accordance to the Canada Building Code.
