About Rene Jacobs

Since 2006 I'm the proud owner of my own gallery in the city center of Delft, which started as Galerie de Kunstkop but was renamed in ART Jacobs in 2019. People are most welcome to come and watch over my shoulder while I'm painting. It is not easy to capture my work in one direction. I like to work in various styles. Experimenting with new styles and materials is an essential part of my artistry. But most of these styles have two things in common: it's originality and it's unmistakable sense of humor with a dark edge. Besides being an artist and running my gallery I have been the initiator and organizer of the Museum Night Delft from 2010 until 2016 and the Night at the Museum for kids from 2017 untilt 2018. In 2019 I have decided to focus more on my art and my gallery. I’m still a member of the foundation of Cultuurbarbaren and Highlight Delft. Before 2006 I was a senior management accountant at P&O Nedlloyd for 12 years.

    Since April 2019 I have renamed my gallery into ART Jacobs. People are most welcome to come and visit my gallery and watch over my shoulder while I'm working. Changing the name of the gallery was more than just another name. I want to focus on a higher level of quality paintings and the international name was chosen because nowadays almost half of my work is being sold abroad.

    Currently I'm involved in the organization of High Light and I am responsible for all financial activities, from the payments to our artists to keeping our budget up to date. High Light is Delft’s new art & technology festival. On Saturday November 17th, you’ll be able to see how technology impacts our society on eleven locations. High Light displays spectacular creations and discoveries, and will share with you the stories of its creators. Additionally, High Light will showcase a great music & debate program, as well as projects in which students and renowned designers and artists cooperate.

    In 2017, after seven successful episodes, we have decided to stop the Museumnacht and change it into a Night at the Museum for kids. During this night a variety of exhibitions, workshops, music performers, dance, theater and art was offered to children and their parents. The theme was "scary". Our target audience was children between 4 and 12 years and their parents. The evening was immensely successful with over 6,000 visitors. In 2018 there will be another Night at the Museum for kids.

    I have taken the initiative to organise the Museum night in Delft in 2009. The first Museumnight was organised in 2010. During this event all museums, theaters and all galleries are open and many cultural festivities are being organised, including a large Afterparty. The museumnight has been increasingly popular since 2010 and has influenced the cultural landscape in Delft significantly. Since the start in 2010 we have organized 7 consecutive Museumnights. However since the Army Museum was closed in 2015 and there was only one large museum left in Delft. We felt that this number was too small to properly organize a Museumnight. In 2018 we are aiming to organize another large cultural festival; High Light. The festival will be a cross over between art and technique.
