Hollister is a global medical device company focused on developing and manufacturing products in the ostomy, intermittent catheter, and critical care markets. As an intern, I conduct technical research and perform various experiments in a BSL-2 laboratory for a specialized urinary care team.I perform quantitative assays using spectrophotometry (i.e., ELISA), independently perform microbiological test methods (i.e., zone of inhibition, bioburden recovery), have developed, refined, and tested in vitro models of the lower urinary tract following literature review, and have conducted an extensive literature review to identify gaps in intermittent catheter use (i.e., unmet user needs) to support the knowledge base of our international continence care team and inform future product development.

The Bea Lab is a lab dedicated to the study of the dynamic biological and microbiological processes that take place during and after pregnancy. In this role, I researched and developed a high-throughput method for the analysis and integration of mental health, microbiome, and metabolomic profiles of women surrounding pregnancy.I developed and implemented a computational pipeline for data-independent acquisition (DIA) mass spectrometry data using MS-DIAL and generated an R pipeline for analysis of 16s rRNA amplicon sequencing data, utilizing tools such as DADA2, phyloseq, and vegan. I also employed statistical analyses, including PERMANOVA with the adonis function and linear models, to test patient-reported factors for significance.
