I’ve spent most of my career identifying the best ways to serve the under-privileged. And I’m proud to say, I’ve put programs in place that do just that. Not just concepts, but programs that work.I grew up in a family full of teachers and nurses. I knew I wanted to be in healthcare, and after researching the many roles, I leaned toward psychology. I liked the idea of providing individuals with the tools or skills that would help them grow, improve, and move on to something better. I received my BA in Psychology and immediately began using that knowledge to help people identify and rekindle their connection with their strengths—or remember who they are.An exciting time in my career was working with Clarence Pendleton, Civil Rights Petitioner. I worked as a job developer and case manager where I qualified people for the government programs, got them into schools and made sure they landed jobs. Follow through is something that comes naturally to me. If I start it, I’ll finish it. A proud time for me was helping dozens of low-income, Section 8, (mostly single female heads of household) individuals qualify and BUY their first homes. They never dreamed it could be their reality. And that program… frankly, no one was doing it as they didn’t believe it could be done. I read every word written about it, researched how others were managing it, and ultimately… well, you know the rest. This success sparked interest from other counties, and I began sharing my knowledge as trusted advisor and SME for HUD programs. I also took it a step further and developed the Family Self Sufficiency collaborative used by dozens of housing authorities. I love what I do.When I’m not working, you’ll find me creating beautiful paper crafts, cycling on my Peloton, providing pro-bono resources to underserved communities and giving back through organizations like Leap to Success or Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
