René Tremblay, former Chairman of Taubman Asia, the Asian arm of U.S. based Taubman Centers, a leader in the shopping center industry (NYSE: TCO), joined Taubman in 2010 as President of Taubman Asia until December 2016, and has been responsible for driving Taubman’s shopping center expansion in the Asia-Pacific region. An industry veteran with rich global experience, Mr. Tremblay has over 35 years of practice in the real estate industry, having been involved in international investment for 25 years, in at least 14 countries. Those include Brazil, Poland, France, Scotland, Spain, China, South Korea, Mexico, Germany, Canada, Luxembourg, Russia, Turkey and the United States. His solid track record in real estate has been focused primarily on the shopping center sector, but also covered significant office, industrial, hotel and residential portfolios.Mr. Tremblay was elected as worldwide chairman of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) from 2007 to 2008, after serving as a trustee and vice president of the Canadian Division. ICSC is the world’s largest shopping center trade association, which had over 72,000 members in close to 100 countries.Other board experience includes serving as chairman of the real estate group of Caisse de dépot et de placement du Québec - one of the ten largest diversified real estate portfolios in the world, with total assets managed of 69 billion CAD. He also sat as chairman of the board of directors of the group’s main companies, namely Ivanhoe Cambridge, a major Canadian-based global real estate owner, manager, developer and investor; Otera Capital, a mortgage lender; Ancar Ivanhoe, a Brazilian shopping center subsidiary; and SITQ, an office company. Mr Tremblay also served on the board of The Real Estate Roundtable, a forum for senior executives of North American real estate companies and political leaders.In 2008, he received a Hermès career achievement award from Université Laval.
