‣ Review and development of operating procedures for the Greenlink interconnector: Development of high-level technical and legal procedures (in collaboration with Greenlink and National Grid) and detailed procedures, focusing on operation at the NCC (Irish Electricity System Control Centre) and on the company's operational processes. Greenlink is a 500 MW, 320 kV, 500 M€ direct current subsea interconnector that will link the south of Ireland to Wales and is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2024.‣ Development of regional coordination services for EirGrid, in collaboration with Coreso. This coordination is key to the future connection of Ireland to France via the Celtic Interconnector (700 MW, 320 kV, 1600 M€), which is expected to be operational by the end of 2026.‣ ENTSOE “Inter-Synchronous Area” Working Group: Until June 2024, I represented EirGrid in this working group which focuses on the harmonisation of operational criteria for DC interconnections in Europe.‣ ENTSOE “Steering Regional Coordination” Working Group: Since July 2024, I represent EirGrid in this working group which facilitates, coordinates and promotes regional cooperation between Regional Coordination Centres (RCCs) and TSOs.

‣ Advice on aspects related to energy regulation and the power system operation of the Canary Islands.‣ Identification and evaluation of large energy consumers in order to establish Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) that guarantee long-term energy commitments (desalination plants, cement factories, department store chains, etc.).‣ Conducting stakeholder analysis to identify key interlocutors, assess their influence and develop engagement strategies (town councils, fishermen's guilds, environmental groups, repair and supply companies in the port of Las Palmas, etc.).‣ Review of legislation to identify opportunities for new business models in the energy sector (e.g. energy communities, energy aggregators, electric mobility, energy storage, etc.), and technical approach to such business models.

GOAL:Adding value in the operation of isolated power systems, in relation to renewable energies, energy storage, electric vehicles and efficiency of thermal generation at TNP (Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Ceuta and Melilla), and to disseminate this added value in different forums. ACHIEVEMENTS:‣ Optimisation of Gorona del Viento operation (hydro pump storage facility), in El Hierro, increasing the integration of renewables on this island from 19% in 2015 to 54% in 2019. ‣ Development of a detailed specification for a 25 MW/6,25 MWh battery storage facility in Tenerife. ‣ Promotion of the OSMOSE storage project (https://www.osmose-h2020.eu/). ‣ Minimisation of renewable curtailment, maintaining system security in the context of energy transition in the Canary Islands and definition of an intelligent system for managing renewable generation in real time.‣ Preparation and submission to MITERD (Spanish Goverment) and CNCM of 170 performance test supervision reports on thermal generators in the Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Ceuta and Melilla, with a proposal for a significant reduction of operating costs of these generators. ‣ Increased innovation initiatives at the department.

GOAL: Supervising and managing the functions carried out by this department, with the aim, in essence, of ensuring the quality of supply in the Canary Islands. This department was made up of 30 people (17 shift operators and 13 technicians during office hours, all engineers).ACHIEVEMENTS:‣ Continuity in the assurance of "no failures" by the control centre operators, which had its impact on the reduced ENS (not supplied energy KPI) in those years.‣ Review of the underfrequency load shedding plans of the Canary Islands power system.‣ Statistical analysis of the primary regulation of generators in the Canary Islands power system. ‣ Strategy for weekly generation schedule to maximise the security/cost ratio in Gran Canaria and Tenerife.‣ Coordination of the Lanzarote and Fuerteventura protection systems.‣ Adaptation of processes, regulations and information systems to the stipulations of Royal Decree 738/2015. The approval of this RD posed a major challenge for both the system operator and the other agents in the electrical sector (re-settlement of generation costs, review of regulations, modification of information systems, etc.).‣ Improvement of attention and information processes to renewable generators.‣ Successful commissioning of new critical facilities (e.g. Sabinal and Santa Águeda substations in Gran Canaria).
