About Rene Mark Barrow
I’m currently working at Xelerate Learning Studio, based in Coventry.My goal is to design and build fun gamified educational VR experiences that takes into account the visual, audio and user experience. My current VR workflow uses Sketchup to create 3D models, bring them into Unity, record/edit audio using Logic Pro, and program C# code in Visual Studio to create a cohesive experience, on both Windows PC and the Meta Quest 2.Prior to the pandemic, I worked in the Entertainment and Tourism industries in Malaysian Borneo, as an event emcee, a Jazz and Swing singer, a music teacher, a VoiceOver Narrator, and an Airbnb Superhost.In Malaysia, the lockdown lasted for nearly two years, during which I decided to complete a BA(Hons) in Music and Sound, followed by an MMus in Popular Music Performance.I achieved a distinction for creating a VR performance featuring a ReadyPlayerMe avatar and dynamic binaural spatial audio, and decided to up-skill by taking an XR Developer boot-camp with Circuit Stream, before joining Mastered. While at Mastered, I’ve collaborated with others in an AGILE environment, learn Object Oriented Programming, created a digital twin of a museum, implement PUN2 Multiplayer networking, and created my VR portfolio.My personal values are Family, Fun, Happiness, Success and Stability, while my top five Gallup Strengths are Learner, Intellection, Connectedness, Relator and Achiever.I’m now based in the UK, and I enjoy designing and developing VR experiences in Unity, combining C# programming in Visual Studio with 3D modelling in Sketchup, to take a project from concept and prototype, through functionality and bug-fixing, to compilation and delivery. I combine a human-centred big-picture design approach to UX, audio and visuals, in order to create a cohesive and pleasant experience, with the technical proficiency to make components work, and integrate SDKs including the XR Interaction ToolKit, OpenXR, ReadyPlayerMe, Oculus Integration, and Photon/PUN2 for Multiplayer.
