I am an HIV prevention researcher based at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in the Department of Medicine. At UAB, I am also the Director of the Center for AIDS Research, a 35-year old center supporting all domains of HIV research and hundreds of faculty, trainees, and collaborators across the state, region, and globe. My independent research focuses on questions that bridge the fields of HIV prevention and reproductive health, including clinical trials and delivery studies of biomedical HIV prevention delivery, hormonal contraception and pregnancy as risk factors for HIV transmission, and safety of oral PrEP when used concurrently with contraception. My research toolkit includes methods from the fields of clinical epidemiology and causal inference, behavioral science, implementation science, including extensive collection and use of biomarkers to quantify key outcomes.
