I have over 14 years of experience working alongside young people who have experienced trauma, stigma, injustice, and marginalisation. My current role as Program Advisor Child Safeguarding at Whitehorse City Council is to provide support and direction relating to Council’s commitment to be a child safe organisation. This is achieved through the incorporation of the Victorian Child Safe Standards into practice, policy and procedure; and more importantly through creating a culture that adopts strategies and takes action to promote child wellbeing and prevent harm to children and young people. I predominantly work from a trauma informed, strength based, social justice, and person centered lens, and incorporate youth/community participation principles in all work I do. A quote I heard from a young person several years ago has stuck with me - "Behaviour is a form of communication”.My wish would be to see the elimination of any form of abuse and neglect towards children and young people; therefore reducing the future lived and living experience of mental ill health, criminalisation, family violence, and addiction.
