Launched in Fall 2020 and currently housed in The Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Research in Black Cultures and Histories, Student Learning to Advance Truth and Equity (SLATE) is an initiative designed to engage undergraduates in a critical understanding of race, racism, and racial equity, especially as they concern African Americans. The program aims to create a dynamic, robust, and transformative environment that centers learning through evidence-based, interdisciplinary, and community-engaged ways of knowing about the persistence and impact of racial categorization and inequality as well as struggles for racial justice as essential issues of our times. Focusing on these topical areas, SLATE provides students with novel learning opportunities through three program components: research, coursework, and community-led experiences.
