The why and how are my biggest questions in life. When I was 11 years old, I asked my teacher why many African countries have such straight borders. He was puzzled by my question and told me it had something to do with colonialism and wars. I found the answer unclear and could not understand how exactly these lines could be drawn in a landscape. My questions about the world have always remained. And it led me to South Africa, China, Iran, Morocco, Eswantini, Albania and many other countries. Combined with my love of art, it has now made me move to Malawi. Not that Malawi is known for its art. On the contrary. It is a forgotten country when cultural organizations talk about African art and even literature barely talks about this beautiful country with so much creative potential. This is what drives me, along with my husband Dirk, to establish the Capa Capa Foundation. We connect local artists with organizations in Malawi, to work in co-creation on social and environmental issues and create awareness around them. Wondering how we do that?
