Yes, I am the same Renee L. Genin, LCSW who you sent your referrals to - after they failed 2 or 3 other therapists. I am the same Renee L. Genin, LCSW who worked in the trauma group at Roger's Day Treatment and bossed Dr. Pahalvan around all the time. Yes, I am the same Renee L. Genin, LCSW who did all the talks about RAD (Reactive Attachment Disorder) at schools and agencies, and legal conventions. The one who thought educating everyone would change the system. I am the same Renee Genin, LCSW who treated mostly RAD, worked mostly with Milwaukee's foster and adoptive families, and spent lots of time and energy advocating for our children in court. Then I quietly fell off the face of the earth. But just into my office. Which can feel that way. In 2017, I fled my marriage and divorced my very RAD husband. To my horror and astonishment, I watched the person I'd created my only biological child with - convince every last person in my life - including the system - that I was the monster. Then that same exact system I sold hours of my time to - away from my own child - in order to help other kids maintain their attachments- had the audacity to take my baby away from me and give him to. that. monster. Needless to say, I went underground for a while. That last part hurt. So don't ask me to testify. I will not. What I will do, is sit with your loved one - and listen. Truly listen; without judgment. And believe them. Maybe offer advise. Definitely compassion. I will meet them person to person and see if I can help. They can come as they are - with or without their kids - and be guaranteed my time and attention (provided they have an appt.) whatever that may mean. I am (and always was) fully licensed and legit; but I was am no longer part of any insurance networks and I have no paperwork. Instead, I offer truly affordable rates (usually $50 a session) that are paid by credit card at the end of each session. This is the closest I've come to advertising since 2017 and I'm doing it because, recently, people have been asking for a bio - which is beyond reasonable - but then I realized I have put nothing new out there in 15 years!So.... if you think I'm a good fit for your person in need, have them text me and tell me who referred them. If they want to come try it out, that's fine. They are under no obligation to ever come back, but they will forever know where I am if they need me. And there is comfort in that.

Social Worker / Child & Family TherapistRogers Memorial Hospital May 2001 - Jan 2008As a therapist in the day treatment program, I worked with children age 4-12 suffering from severe emotional disturbances. Initially, I treated a broad range of children. Eventually, I moved toward specializing in the treatment of trauma-related disorders. This job led me to discover my passion for treating young children whose parents were unable to find age-appropriate treatment elsewhere. Because of this unmet need in our community, I have spent much of my career learning, developing and teaching play therapy techniques. My experience in this program also inspired my interest in the emotional and psychological impact of the foster care on children. In addition to treating hundreds of children with RAD, I provided over 50 workshops and presentations to educate schools and helping professionals on children with attachment difficulties. An advocate for the switch from general to specialty day treatment groups, I helped design & implement the trauma group for young children. -
In-Home TherapistAutism Behavioral Consultants May 1998 - Oct 2004As an in-home therapist treating children with autism-spectrum disorders, I became highly aware of the impact autism has on the entire family system. While working in this position, the treatment I provided was behaviorally-based and focused on the individual child with Autism, Asperger's Disorder, or Pervasive Developmental Disorder. The experience of being in the child's home, however, and interacting with and observing the child's family, was part of the impetus behind my pursuit of a Master's degree. I still enjoy working with children on the autism spectrum, but I am now better equipped to help the entire family with their respective needs in relation to the individual with autism.
