The Committee is a non-profit organisation with membership comprising of government and non-government agencies, support groups and individuals interested in, involved in, or affected by adoption and permanent care or related aspects of Out of Home Care.We have approximately 25 members and we meet quarterly. The meetings enable us to keep abreast of the current changes and themes within adoption and permanent care, and network with one another.

During the three years CAPS transitioned from a telephone support line to an organisation with various services aimed at the prevention and alleviation of child abuse and the support of parents and carers. CAPS has two service streams under the banners – 'Child Abuse Prevention Service' and 'Carer and Parent Support'. Services offered under these streams include a national support telephone line, community education, support groups, family support, parent and carer education sessions, library and resource centre and parent training.
