My work at Paul Smith's College as the Tutor Coordinator introduced me to the importance of recognizing learning styles and building soft skills. In the summer of 2014, I was drawn back to Syracuse with a desire to bring these ideas to the children in my hometown. While working for Hillside Work-Scholarship, I saw many of Syracuse's students in low income neighborhoods struggle to learn in the midst of overwhelming social issues. I decided to leave Hillside and commit to full-time studies at Syracuse University to pursue a master's degree in Public Administration with a focus on education policy. I take every opportunity to learn more about issues like the school-to-prison pipeline and continuous traumatic stress disorders with the hope that I will find ways to help change the systems that perpetuate these problems in our urban communities.

Project CoordinatorSyracuse City School District Oct 2018 - PresentSyracuse, New York AreaI am evaluating all the contracts Syracuse City School District has with outside agencies as part of the Superintendent's Strategic Plan for 2018-2022. By assessing the effectiveness of these contracts and setting standards for reporting and outcomes, I deliver comprehensive reports to the Board of Education that lays out what has been accomplished and recommendations for improvements to accomplish even more. The Board can then determine whether to renew, adjust, or end the contract based on data and research. -
Community Projects CoordinatorCortland Area Communities That Care Sep 2017 - Oct 2018Cortland, New YorkCACTC is a coalition that engages 12 sectors of Cortland County to address major issues impacting youth. Our three main areas of focus are youth development, literacy and substance abuse prevention. Everything we do is driven by data and research and works to build a safe and healthy community where youth can thrive. I have taken the lead on our literacy work which focuses on kindergarten readiness as a predictor of third grade reading levels. After meeting with many of the elementary principals and family oriented organizations in the County, I am moving forward with an outreach program that utilizes the current connections parents have to provide the information they may be currently lacking. A literacy impact team with key community stakeholders will meet quarterly to review what is being done and discuss how our efforts can be improved. -

Evaluated research for best practices and key aspects of successful systems. In collaboration with three amazing peers, we crafted recommendations for Onondaga County to improve the employment assistance available to diverse citizens. We presented our finding both in a written report and in a presentation to the leadership in the Office of Economic Development and OCIDA.

Administrative AssistantHillside Work-Scholarship Connection Dec 2014 - Jun 2016Syracuse, New York AreaAlthough my main responsibilities were to be the front face of our office and maintain the organization of our supplies and purchases, I found projects where I was able to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our program. I had the privilege of working with several students on increasing their study skills and tools; an opportunity that strengthened my desire to bring these skills to a broader audience of children at younger and younger ages. I also led short training sessions on topics like learning styles and good decision making practices for staff. With a long list of ideas, I hope to continue bringing great things to HW-SC and our students in the future by continuing my relationship with the organization during my graduate studies.

TutorOnondaga Community College Aug 2014 - Apr 2015Syracuse, New York AreaI loved helping students with Accounting, Finance, and Business Math. I shared resources for gaining further information pertaining to coursework, memorization strategies, and how to take a structured approach to difficult problems to simplify the information. -
Tutor CoordinatorPaul Smith'S College Oct 2009 - Aug 2014Paul Smiths, NyI am so grateful for the experience I acquired at Paul Smith's College. Supervising over fifty tutors and serving more than half the campus each semester opened up a wealth of great connections with innovative and determined students. Some of the responsibilities I will miss are helping students develop success plans, hosting training events and celebration parties, and providing a coffee station/break room for the weary. The next Tutor Coordinator should be able to use the materials and processes I developed over my years of working there to easily slip into their new role. Among these are a Tutor Coordinator Manual, new tutor handbooks, a fully developed training program with all the materials necessary to host 30 to 60 minute training sessions, and how-to videos showing different aspects of the user tracking software I implemented to switch our data records from paper to computer. I will be forever grateful to my supervisor, Virginia McAleese, for all she taught me and the growth I experienced as a manager because of the faith she had in me. -
Volunteer StaffIntervarsity Christian Fellowship/Usa Sep 2010 - Jan 2014As Volunteer Staff at Paul Smith's College for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, I helped students brainstorm community outreach ideas and run events on campus. I passed on my knowledge of leadership skills and tried to encourage each member to stay true to their beliefs while exploring and listening to the beliefs of others. I allowed the students to run with their own ideas and tried to support them as best I could. When mistakes were made or ideas failed, I walked them through the process of evaluating what went right and what went wrong and how could it be done better next time. We worked through conflicts within the group together trying to see both sides of the disagreement. If a student pointed out a problem, they were expected to brainstorm solutions and be a part of the solution rather than leaving it up to someone else. Overall, my job was to serve the students as their leader, providing them with the resources and knowledge they needed to make a good impact on campus. -
Restaurant ManagerCrowne Plaza® Hotels & Resorts Sep 2008 - Oct 2009Lake Placid, NyCrowne Plaza has 3 offsite restaurants, 2 onsite restaurants, and numerous banquet rooms within the hotel. While their other managers each took ownership of a restaurant and worked salary, I rotated between the restaurants on their off shifts or during peak times to assist in supervising staff, serving large banquets, organizing wedding services, and maintaining the appearance of the dining rooms. While hosting, I was in charge of answering phone calls, handling customer complaints/questions/requests, room service at the hotel, setting up rooms for conferences, and assisting with service including waiting and busing tables during rush hours. As a manager, I had to stay positive in the midst of challenges, complete my duties and ensure other staff were completing theirs correctly and in a timely manner, and maintain high customer satisfaction.I enjoyed the fast pace environment of my work but chose to leave when the tourist season of the summer started coming to an end. As the only hourly paid manager, my shifts were being cut back when I applied to Paul Smith's College. Although I offered to work nights and weekends, my manager chose to let me go rather than work with my new schedule. I learned a great deal while working at Crowne Plaza and gained valuable management and service experience. -
Assistant ManagerHancock Fabrics Jun 2004 - Aug 2006Syracuse, New York AreaI supervised the store, assisted with inventory, and created store displays. As customers came in with projects, I helped them find the materials needed and figure out the measurements for them.
