I started as a long-term substitute, taking over the Public Health technical elective for the school's Community Health Equity Academy (CHEA) while the former teacher was out on maternity leave. This involved hacking together some curriculum and building a project for >100 students for the final two months of the school year.Over the summer, I was the lead teacher for Castlemont's cohort of students in the Exploring College and Career Options (ECCO) summer internship program, which involved weekly class meetings to prepare for the end-of-term conference presentations and daily site visits to student internship locations.The following school year, I planned and taught full-time the Green Urban Design and Urban Ecology technical elective classes for the school's Sustainable Urban Design Academy (SUDA), incorporating both the makerspace and farm on campus to teach students about food systems and design thinking.
