I support a team of researchers at NIEHS by analyzing public data from the Allergen component of the NHANES study to investigate the effect of environmental exposures on health outcomes such as asthma and allergies. I use my strong SAS skills to perform all data management and statistical analysis. Activities include:• build analysis datasets• link questionnaire and lab data• create derived variables• calculate summary statistics and frequencies• perform t-test• run and explain results of logistic regression and prediction models

I performed statistical analysis using publically available data from the NHANES study. I supported a team of 10 researchers and was responsible for all data activities and statistical analysis. Also, for two years I served as a clinical programmer and data manager for an NIEHS clinical study. I worked with developers to set up the study database, mapped 20 CRFs to variable names, and performed unit testing to ensure database development was correct. I was responsible for the transfer of lab data from the study site into the study database. I used SAS to write data validations and report on study enrollment participant status. I performed data extracts and created codebooks for client use.

During this time I got my first experience working with data from nationally representative surveys based on multi-stage probability survey design. I learned how to use SUDAAN to take survey strata, cluster, and design weights into account when doing statistical analysis. Also during this time my SAS skills became a lot stronger. I started doing SAS/MACRO on a regular basis to streamline a lot of the statistical analysis I was doing.Also during this period, I got my first experience working on clinical trial studies. My SAS programming skills were put to good use doing data checks, building analysis datasets, creating derived variables, and generating tables of summary statistics for Phase I and II studies.

This was my first job straight out of grad school. My first main project was doing statistical analysis for environmental studies conducted by EPA. I created lots of plots and maps and taught myself lots of SAS/GRAPH tricks to do customized graphs. I also did some GIS work with ArcView, but mostly with SAS PROC GMAP and PROC GPROJECT. I also learned how to do geocoding. My SAS/GRAPH skills include: • annotate, • multiple plots per page with GREPLAY• using date and time variables for time series plots• scatterplots with log10 scale• scatterplots with special symbols or greek symbols• and specifying color codes with the RGB and HLS scale.
