    My primary responsibilities were to select, transcribe, and annotate primary documents from National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) files to form the thematic chapters of a documentary volume. I also composed analytical introductory essays to the chapters under my responsibility, drawing on the documents and relevant secondary literature. I performed individual and two-person oral proofreading, and gave constructive critical feedback on the work of fellow editors. I also pursued necessary additional research in NARA files and in secondary sources. In addition, I created a reference guide for the 1865 and 1866/67 sessions of Congress as transcribed in the Congressional Globe.As freelance editor, I prepared the index for the Project's volume of edited historical documents in publication, as well as proofreading its essays and checking its references
