Ownership and responsibility for the monitoring systems of the Service Delivery Platform (SDP), a large scale multi-tenanted environment delivering a variety of services to a range of corporate and government clients. This environment was made up of over 2000 devices (network and server equipment).The role entailed operational responsibility of the management systems (System Center Operations Manager, EMC Smarts and other) providing Incident Management, Problem Management and escalations as well as taking on in-house projects in the Cloud Operations environment. It also required liaising with other parts of Spark, such as Design and Implementation, when escalating problems or bringing in new projects into the environment. It included liaising with other operational teams to create monitoring profiles for servers, applications and network devices, providing technical leadership and expertise to such groups.I was also required to lead and assist in identifying technical and procedural issues affecting the monitoring environment, and delivering appropriate solutions.Over time I had the opportunity to mentor two junior staff to become specialised in the Management Systems specialty. I also instructed other teams in the use of these systems and the benefits they provided.

Solution Design ConsultantInitially contracted to perform server builds and setup, fault diagnosis and repairs, and general OS and application software installation and setup for a variety of projects. I then became involved with the systems monitoring project in 2005, firstly specialising in Nagios set up, training and support and then continuing with Smarts set up, training and support.From 1998 to 2004, I worked on a variety of contracts mainly in the Software development area, as a Business Analyst and software designer and developer. Clients included Chiquita Brands, Christchurch International Airport, NZ Rural Press, Powercall, Freshmax, MG Marketing and others. I also contracted to Eagle Technology as a service engineer, attending customer sites to service a variety of equipment from desktop PCs to Windows based servers.

I was originally contracted to fulfill a facilities management role for AFFCO NZ, managing their newly acquired Wang VS system. I subsequently joined QED as a full time employee. I fulfilled a variety of roles within QED, including Help Desk Analyst (6months), Programmer (2 years), Analyst Programmer (2.5 years), Product Specialist (1 year) and finally Account Manager (2 years).The core products worked on were financial applications (AP, AR, GL, CB, Payroll) as well as some specialised transactional systems in the areas of Property Management, Fresh Produce Trading, Publication System and others. Other products included Capacity and Performance tools and various utilities for the Wang environment.

I was employed by Wang as a Customer Service Engineer. Trained and gained extensive experience in Wang hardware and software, including in-depth knowledge of the VS Operating System.
